Attractions:

Welcome to Featherston, straight off the Rimutaka Hill, the gateway to the Wairarapa.

Featherston has a population of 2800 people, is entrenched with history, and is a short distance away from  stunning rugged South Wairarapa coastline.

 

What to do and see:

  • The Rimutaka Incline, that you can either walk or cycle
  • Featherston’s Famous Fell Museum
  • Featherston’s Heritage Museum
  • ANZAC Hall (First World War Officer’s Club)
  • Messines Way on State Highway 2 (Training Camp during First World War)
  • Lake Wairarapa
  • One Tree Hill walk, takes around an hour depending on level of fitness
  • Access to the Tararua Ranges
  • Historical Lighthouse, Pinnacles and Seal Colony  at Cape Palliser which is 50 minutes drive on the South Wairarapa Coast.

 

Bars, restaurants and local cafes:

  • The Royal Hotel is a great place for a bar meal or fine dining.
  • The Featherston RSA and Messines Restaurant.
  • Everest Cafe a short distance down the street, on your left, providing top quality food and yummy coffee.
  • The Tin Hut has fine food, geat hospitality, and is home of the Blues Club.  They provide a courtesy couch with pick-ups and drop-offs from Featherston Motels and Camping.
  • Then there is the Kia Ora Dairy which is well stocked with all the essentials you may need
  • Just over the railway line to your left is Featherston Community Four Square Store, which is open from early to late
